ECE has the highest intake at 9, followed by Mechanical at 8 and CSE at 7. Chemistry M.Sc. has only 2 seats — if that’s your discipline, apply early and make sure your application is spotless.
How Stipend Payment Actually Works
A lot of students I’ve spoken to assume the ₹5,000/month just shows up automatically. It doesn’t — there’s a condition attached.
You must complete a minimum of 15 working days every month to be eligible for that month’s stipend. Fall below 15 days — even once — and that month’s payment is withheld.
The only leave permitted during the internship is sick leave, and only with a valid medical prescription. No casual leave. No personal leave. This is a defence establishment — they run it like one.
⚡ Pro-Tip: If you’re travelling from another state, factor in your journey time before the 1st July start date. Arriving late and missing your first week counts against your 15-day attendance for that month.
Step-by-Step: How to Apply for TBRL DRDO Internship 2026
No online form here. This is a physical application sent by post. Here’s the exact process:
Step 1: Download the Application Form
Go to 👉 https://drdo.gov.in and download the prescribed application proforma. Using any other format will get your application rejected — no questions asked, no second chance.
Step 2: Get Your College to Write the Request Letter
This is non-negotiable. Your Principal, HOD, or TPO must write a Request Letter on college letterhead, in the exact format provided in the TBRL advertisement. The letter must:
- Confirm the internship is part of your degree
- Confirm you’ll attend minimum 15 working days/month
- Carry the official college seal and signature
No letter = no application. TBRL won’t process incomplete submissions.
Step 3: Fill the Application Form — Carefully
Fill it in capital letters only. Double-check:
- Name exactly as on Aadhaar
- Correct branch code (AER, CSE, ECE, etc.)
- Cumulative average % calculated correctly across all semesters
- Email ID — this is how selected students are contacted
Step 4: Compile Your Documents
Pack the following together:
- ✅ Filled application form with passport photo affixed
- ✅ Request letter from Principal/HOD/TPO (prescribed format)
- ✅ Mark sheets of all completed semesters
- ✅ Aadhaar card copy
- ✅ College ID card copy

Only selected students are contacted — by email, to the address you write on your application form. There is no rejection communication. If you don’t hear by late June, you weren’t selected this cycle.
If You’re Selected — Documents to Keep Ready
The moment you get that selection email, start collecting these. Some take time:
- TPO letter for 6-month duration
- Bonafide and Character Certificate from college
- NOC from college on letterhead (original)
- Police Verification Certificate from your hometown ← start this immediately
- Aadhaar card original
- All original mark sheets
- 3 passport size photographs
- Bank account details
The police verification is the one that catches people off guard. It takes anywhere from a few days to a few weeks depending on your local police station. Don’t wait until a week before joining to initiate it.
Frequently Asked Questions
My college uses CGPA. How do I show 75%? Your college must officially convert your CGPA to percentage using their own formula and mention it in the Request Letter. TBRL will not accept a conversion you’ve done yourself.
Can I apply if the internship isn’t mandatory in my course? No. It must be a formal part of your B.Tech or M.Sc. degree curriculum. Voluntary internships don’t qualify.
I cleared a backlog last semester. Am I eligible? The advertisement says students with backlogs are ineligible. If your backlog is fully cleared and doesn’t reflect as active on your current record, you may proceed — but do not hide or misrepresent it. Suppression of facts leads to disqualification at any stage.
Will DRDO offer me a job after the internship? No obligation exists on TBRL’s part, and interns cannot claim any employment right. However, the experience and certificate are valuable assets for DRDO recruitment exams (like CEPTAM) and other government/PSU job applications.
Is accommodation available near the lab? TBRL provides nothing — no housing, no transport, no food allowance. Panchkula and Chandigarh have decent PG options but book ahead of time. July is a peak joining month across institutions.
What if I leave before 6 months? You get no certificate and no remaining payment. TBRL is clear — complete the full tenure or receive nothing. Plan accordingly before you apply.
